Listowel ladies hit Killarney
The annual excursion taken by a group of ladies from Listowel headed for Killarney on Sunday and they indulged in a spell of shopping, a meal and a bout of dancing before heading back home.
20 of Listowel’s (and Lixnaw’s) finest took the bus at lunchtime and turned south. Marks and Spencers is a great draw and they also enjoyed a spell at the Outlet Centre and soon the bus had plenty of shopping bags around it. “They were shopping all around them,” Bridie Carroll said.
Bridie has been involved in organising the trips since they began in a revival of a tradition that began with the old Killocrim ICA many years ago. Unfortunately, this year the excursion was a bit later in the year and some mothers found that they were unable to go because school was opening on Monday morning and they needed bright eyes to get all of that organised.
But there were also a few new faces in the group this year.
They all gathered at the Royal Hotel at seven for dinner. “We always go to the Royal when we are in Killarney because they always give us a lovely meal there,” Bridie said.
After dinner, it was on to Darby O’Gill’s for the dancing, another staple activity of the group when their destination is Killarney. “They always have good bands there so we enjoyed a few polka sets,” Bridie said.
And when that was all over, they filed back onto the bus for the trip home. But the fun was not over yet. “This was the bus that carried the roses around and it had a microphone so a number of them sang a few songs. We travelled in style, I can tell you,” she added.
And everyone was home by 2.30 after a great night out leaving everyone looking forward to next year’s trip. Clare is being mentioned as a possible destination.
